More Blog Housekeeping
Just a quick post to let you know that I have finally completed the redirect code that will redirect all traffic from the old blog to this new blog. I found a WordPress plugin to handle it, and it worked perfect. The nice thing is that it can do a 1 to 1 mapping from each blog post on the old site to this new site. I was afraid I was going to have to just redirect every post on the old site to the home page of this blog (which would have been rather confusing), but the plugin was able to map the old pages to my new pages. Nice!
So that really does officially end the old Genre Reader/Fantasy Book News & Review blog on blogger.
More New Blog Updates
I will cross-post this on the old blog (and it will probably be my last post on the old blog)..I just wanted to mention a couple of housekeeping things.
1) I was able to import my posts (all 887 or so of them) and your comments (all 2000+ of them) to this new blog. I had read some folks had issues with the blogger to WordPress import tool, but luckily for me it worked easily. I haven't checked all 887 posts, but the ones I have checked looked fine. I need to find some posts that contained images (mostly cover art) as that is one area I've read that could be broken after the import. If you happen to see an old post with a broken image and have the time to let me know, I would appreciate it.
2) While I set up a new FeedBurner feed for this site, I just modified the old feed to point to this new blog. So if you were subscribed to the old site, you should now be subscribed to the new site instead.
3) Next up I will find a way to have the old site permanently redirect to this new site, which will officially retire the old Genre Reader site.
That's it! For those of you joining me here on the new blog..thanks!
Welcome!
Just a quick post to say "Welcome!"..this will be the new home of Genre Reader/Fantasy Book News & Reviews. In case you are new here, I have run a (mostly) fantasy book review blog for the the last 3.5 years. I started a new job in January, and my company blocks access to blogger which made it difficult/impossible to maintain the site. So I decided I had to either give up the blog, or move it to a new domain. Thus, this new site was born.
It will operate pretty much like the old blog..meaning it will cover mostly fantasy book news, reviews, rants, opinions, etc. I hope to resume the Today in Fantasy posts, too, now that I can resume normal posting activities. Oh, and I will still cover new fantasy releases each week, along with the occasional mention of music I want to recommend.
You will notice a "subscribe to this feed" banner below each post. It came with the theme I installed, and I will keep it around for the first month or so as people get used to the new site. Then I will remove it (since I have a subscribe image at the top of the site)
Feel free to leave a welcome comment so I can see how comments appear on the blog
